The arrival of small children, required either a relocation or a substantial extension. Both partners also needed home offices with a flexibility to adapt such spaces later in life, should circumstances change. The traditional bungalow was cut back at the rear, removing sundry extensions. A new two storey extension provided an open living area on the ground, a cellar at the lower ground and a living space with kitchenette and bathroom on the first floor level. The first floor has excellent views to an adjoining park and the deck gives a sheltered outdoor living space with large sliding doors. The rear of the living area is currently used as two offices, with access to the bathroom and kitchenette. In the future this space may be divided into bedrooms, a master bedroom or a self contained unit. The materials and finishes are contemporary but sympathetic with the original bungalow. The glass bricks provide good daylight but respect the privacy of both adjoining properties.
