The original Federation brick and tile cottage was in relatively original condition with a 1970s rear skillion roof. The site was challenging with Sydney Water Board sewer running under the house, flood zone in the rear and an easement on the side boundary. Even though it was not heritage listed, the building has heritage significance in the local Cammeray Conservation area.
To keep the original facade and building height, the new rear addition is a split level to accommodate a first floor addition within the original roof plane. The use of modern material such as Bowral Blue Brick and Colorbond Astro cladding, and a restrained roof form distinguishes the new from the old.
Internally the character of the original front dwelling remains intact, whilst the new accommodates a modern lifestyle with an open plan dining kitchen space that opens direct to the rear garden. The first floor is a generous attic like space, consisting of new bedrooms and rumpus, suitable for young children.
