Alterations and additions to an existing brick and tiled roof property dating from the early 1950s, with a southern brick rear extension over two levels. It was a difficult site, due to its bushfire zoning, height constraint and heritage context. The client wanted to retain the existing envelope and alterations were made to the existing ground floor and lower ground interior. The corner of the house was enclosed to create a double storey void. A new balcony was constructed to extend the living space into the bushland. A contemporary attic style first floor was proposed above the front northern portion to provide a bedroom and ensuite, which successfully captures the views of Tunks Park and Cammeray.
