The residence is a large intact Federation style timber house with encircling verandahs, located on a prominent street corner. The dwelling which is listed on the NSW State heritage listing, is set in a fine, mature garden and is an excellent example of the domestic timber architecture once typical of the North Coast area of New South Wales.
The dwelling was previously run as a bed and breakfast business. The brief was to restore the original integrity of the dwelling, creating a suitable home. The external works included a new garage, studio, inground spa and a deck. The extensive alterations were a challenging exercise. The objective was to construct a substantial addition that is sympathetic to the heritage character of the original dwelling, but not mimicking the original features.
DSA worked closely with the Builder, Eggins Homes, and owner during the course of construction to ensure the integrity of the design and its heritage was retained.
The design was awarded the Master Builder Association Northern Region Best House Renovation 2013.
